Ki Hydrogen is a deep-tech venture developing innovative technology called biomass electrolysis to produce green hydrogen.
Leveraging our CTO’s postdoctoral research at the University of Cambridge, we use waste biomass as feedstock rather than ultra-pure water to produce hydrogen using up to 75% less electricity than water electrolysis. We directly tackle the single largest component of the levelised cost of green hydrogen production – the high energy requirement. This makes cost-competitive green hydrogen possible in Europe without having to rely on subsidies or curtailed power prices, where we don’t have the luxury of consistently low renewable electricity prices like Australia or Chile.
We operate at low temperatures (60-70 C) and do not produce any CO2 byproducts that need to be separated and captured. Our only gaseous product is pure hydrogen. The liquid biomass waste can be selectively broken down into useful chemical compounds such as acetic and formic acids which hold commercial value.
